These Few Weeks ...

Been busy with Civil Engineering Project (CEP) lately don't even have enough time for piano. Finally I can have a short rest after yesterday's progress presentation 1& report 1 on that in appropriate subject for 1st yr students. =_= Well,this is the first time I lead a group project in Uni. Its sure ain't easy. lol with all those members who don't listen during briefings and can't get things done when 40% of their work is done for them. sigh... Thank God that not all of my members are incompetent... I sincerely thank those who did their task properly in time. A BIG THANKS to my Uncle for having my back, helping me with this assignment all this time with the info gathering, guidance & slide preparing.. etc, and KM for the help in leading and last minute editing/compiling & presentation. Thank you both!! phew~ At least so far my group is in good shape. I hope 'THOSE" members got the message from the my last briefing yesterday. This is just the beginning of this assignment, I seriously need them to be cooperative and productive. I don't wanna screw up in my 1st leading & disappoint people who helped. I'll do my best. Of course not to forget my subjects & music too. hehe... XD May God bless me and guide me. GUAN KIAT 加油!!! Starting to missed hanging out with my pals, although its only been a week since Ting's Birthday and a few weeks since the steamboat gathering at Joyce's hehe.

Hu.... After a month long severel fun filled holidays, my 2nd sem in first year is finally here. lol nothing much happened in the 1st week. Just the usual timetable arranging, tutorial session grabbing, lecturer introducing.. etc Well, its another start for me. After the much expected and disappointing 1st sem results of mine came out. I have vow to stive this semester. hahaha.. Don't wanna screw it up again. I've been slacking since I graduated high school. Lost my energy striving in academics since then. >.< well hope I my will is much much stronger this time. hehe.. wish me luck and all the best. God please give me strength and guide me.

Be selfish enough to sacrifice the others or to sacrifice for the others?

The RED Pill or the BLUE Pill?

Lately, I'm haunted by the the decision whether choose to pursuit my dream as a chemical engineer and do something related to it as a chemist or choose to stay here and take up other course in my comfort zone. It became even more confused when I finally got the offer from both Monash University and University of Nottingham for chemical engineering course. At first, I'm worried that I might not be able to leave my comfort zone behind and go over even its just in KL. Especially my family and my beloved friends which there's no one else can replace them in my heart with all the nostalgic memories and bonds I have in Kuching. Slowly it turns to fear. Fear of leaving all these behind, fear of losing them and the fear of things might not be the same anymore when I'm back. I started losing sleeps... praying for the guidance day after day... Can't make the decision for my future.

After a series of consideration and events and due to the time constrain of the registration dead line, I've decided to take one of the offer. I had a talk with my dad about my decision yesterday. In that conversation I've learned about the current situation of his career. My dad is a retiring banker who has only 1yr left before his retirement and he's in his critical time now due to all the office politics which I'm not in convenient to write about here, he's currently in a very bad position now as a senior banker. From what I've known he'd already lost his sleep for almost 2 months now and having the stress that I'm couldn't possibly understand. He would have resign long before if it wasn't because my siblings and I are still studying.

The fees for both Monash and Nottingham degree are approximately RM 40+k per year including the living expenditure. That means I'll be spending a total of RM 160+k just for a degree in 4 years time. Swinburne's degree fees is RM 21K per year and I can stay home, that mean the living expenditure can be omitted, thus I only need RM84+k for degree if I stay in Swinburne. I can almost get 2 degrees in Swinburne with the price of Monash and Nottingham. Besides that, from what I've heard from various engineers and people from engineering firms, chemical engineers are not in demand in Malaysia especially in Sarawak due to the current economic market. Which means I need to stay in overseas if I want to be successful in this field.

Yesterday night, a good friend of my dad came for a CNY visit. He owns and run a construction firm also told me the same thing. He advice me to take up other course unless I planned to stay in overseas in a long term timing after I graduate. My dad also told me 2 of my graduate chemical engineers cousin still can't find a real job till now since their graduation a few years ago.

However, my dad says he'll still support and respect my decision. He'll still let me go ahead and pursuit my own dream.

That night I couldn't sleep, keep on thinking which is the right choice to make? Yes, my dad had given me the green light. I can call Monash or Nottingham that I'm taking the offer anytime now, the intake deadline is within this week. But at what cost? My dad may lost his job in a year time and I need this huge amount of money, what will become of my brother and sister? My brother is only 2 years younger than me, he'll be graduating from secondary school this year. Further more, I'll be adding another burden and stress to my dad at this critical moment of his career which he really needs to focus on now. He'll worried about me over there in KL.

Is it worth it?

Should i go?

Which is the right choice?

Can my dream really lead me to my success in the future?

Interest & dream over logic and reality?

Yes. I'm a indecisive coward. Weak and useless. I'm not courageous enough to give in to my selfishness and sacrifice my sibling's education and see my dad suffer. In the mean time I'm also not great enough to give up my dreams. I couldn't even made the decision even when both doors are already opened for me to walk through it.

After the whole sleepless night of thinking and praying for God's guidance, I've decided to let go of my dream and stay here and most probably choose telecommunication and network engineering in Swinburne. T & N engineering is kinda like my second choice. I'm not completely sacrificing my dream for my family. I'm not that great, not a hero. Partly I don't wanna leave them and my friends just yet. I'm still scared of leaving them. To me its just too much and too important to leave behind. I can't stand to see my dad suffer and sacrificing my sibling's education just because of what I want. Besides with all the money saved from the expansive course in KL, I can do twinning or an exchange program in Australia in my 3rd or final year in degree and further my studies into Master. My dream can wait, I believe I'll still have the chance to take up chemical course in the future after graduate. after all, my interest doesn't really need to be my profession so soon.

I believe in God guidance and I think I've made the right choice. As an eldest brother and a son i can't be so self-centred. And through these few weeks of self struggle I've realize how blessed I'm to have a great family like that especially a great father who sacrifice so much for me and all the great friends I had. In the same time I also realized I dint appreciate enough of what I have all these while. I felt very guilty and ashamed. I regret that I dint treasure enough the things I have and the people around me. This incident really make me see things in another way that I never used to. It taught me that I should start being a better person and be more responsible for my own actions, making the right choice and appreciate the people around me. And most importantly I'm not as lonely as I think. God, my family and my pri pals are always with me and things will change through time but something won't, our love for each other and we'll aways be great friends. Thanks for everything and all the supports & comfort you guys gave me these few weeks especially Mic and Noh. I love you all. God had truly blessed me.

Welcoming the New Year !!

Today's the last day of 2008 and there goes my last day of 18 year old. hahahah..... A whole new year which means a whole new year filled with unknowns and obstacles to face. Aghhhh.... just thinking about it gives me headachs. These obstacles and challenges are like an endless loop of circle. Its just like a yearly routine. No matter how hard I try to avoids these challenges it'll still eventually find its way back to me. sigh... Thus, I should learn to stop worrying too much on things that I can't possibly see it coming but enjoy and stay happy as life goes on. However, I should not to forget to stand firm and ready to face whatever it is that God has prepared for me with a calm and sound mind so that I know how to pick myself up when I fall. So here's my plans for 2009, I want to learn more about the Lord, learn more about life from God and stay happy while ready to face all the challenges ahead, know more about myself, change my attitude towards people, stop judging people, learn to appreciate more on what God have blessed me with in my life, be a more responsible son for my parents, be a more caring brother for my siblings, be a more truthful and loving friend for my pals, be a better owner for my rabbits XD and finally try to convince my parents. :)

To the people I've hurt in the past, I'm sorry for whatever I've done. To the ones I love I'm very grateful & blessed to have you in my life and I'll treasure you guys always. Besides that, I pray for the world to be a better place to live in and may the love of the Lord reigns in every soul on earth. :)

For my best pals (you know who you are :P hehehehe...), I'm very grateful and blessed to know you guys and really appreciate everything you guys have given and taught me, being there for me when I needed help, bring happiness to my life and everything.... etc. I couldn't possibly thank you guys enough. Lost and Found in 2008

2008 has been a long year for me. I've experienced my first year as a foundation student in university. Met different people, different learning environment, the usual ups and downs, missing my buddies who left Kuching for further studies etc... Oh well, may be its not so long after all. After 11 months of 3 semester, I've finished my foundation course. I've been slacking off ever since last semester's final exams was over. Throughout the year, I've been thinking on the same stuff over and over again both about academic and personal issues and frequently contradicting myself. What should I do next? Whats the cause and effect of that choice? Should I stay or should I go? etc. These questions has been lingering in my head over the whole year, unanswered, perhaps even longer for some questions. Day after day, the same daily routines: school, lecturers, assignments, presentations, home, chores. Time just goes by as it should be. At some point I felt very insecure of my future for the choices I've made and also troubled by some personal issues. Frustration and fear. Slowly, what I felt was pure emptiness, futile, vain. I've lost sight of what I want, my target, my purpose....... More importantly I've lost sight of my faith. Slowly straying away from God. I pray less, stopped reading the bible. Although, knowing that I need to repent, I still find different excuses for myself. I frequently find something else to keep myself occupied but everything seems meaningless in the end. I realized I need something strong. Something that can remind me that HE is my refuge, I need to find his light and in God there's answers, HE can lead me to what I seek. I need to hear HIS words again. So I decided to join this year's year end church camp which I skipped last year. It was the only possible church related activity my parents will probably allow me to take part in. Although it'll not be easy to get approval from my parents. But thank God that they've signed the form and gave me the green light. Although its not very green but hey, I get to join anyway. Thanks to all the committee of the camp, the pastors, the people I met in the camp, my group and of course my old best buddies who were there too, Michelle, Ing Noh and Wei Ting. I'm so blessed to have you guys as friends. I had a wonderful time. Too bad out of the gang there's only 4 of us joined the camp, but blessed them too. Anyway, I've found my way back to God and had some of my questions answered. Throughout this camp, I just realized I've changed in some way from the previous years. Perhaps people do change through time. However, Lord please forgive me for lying to my parents and all the sins I've done. Lord please continue to guide me. I'll remember that you are my Savior and thank you for everything You've blessed me with. May your love reign in our hearts forever. Amen. I Hope someday I could convince my parents too. In the mean time, I hope I can spend more time doing something meaningful, learn more about the Lord and myself, make my decision for degree and of course hanging out and have fun with my best friends as much as possible.
